Before the Churchill Downs crowd became soaked from record-setting rain for the Kentucky Derby, Lookin at Lee, under the Twin Spires, won the Forcht Bank sponsored race No. 3 and finished with a final time of 1:46:60 for 1 1/16 miles. It’s win No. 8,000 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
At the top of the stretch, Lookin’ at Lee took the lead and finished ahead of Sonneteer who was running as a maiden. It was Lookin at Lee’s first win since 2016. Lookin at Lucy, the 2010 Preakness winner is the sire to Lookin at Lee.
As for the Forcht Group family, they enjoyed the yearly tradition of attending the Kentucky Derby, the mint juleps, the tradition of colorful suits and big hats with spring dresses. Even though many were drenched from the thunderous rain, they stuck around to witness Justify break the “Curse of Apollo” and win the Kentucky Derby.
