Our History
Forcht Group of Kentucky’s guiding philosophy is the vision of the corporation’s founder, Terry E. Forcht. Few people have the drive and determination to structure a company from the ground up like Mr. Forcht. Terry was born and raised in Louisville, KY and graduated from Shawnee High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville, and then an MBA from the University of Miami, Florida. Shortly thereafter, Terry moved his family to Corbin, KY and began teaching classes at Cumberland College (now University of the Cumberlands). He subsequently founded his own law practice in Corbin.
In 1972, Terry was appointed to the board of directors of Corbin Deposit Bank and Trust Company. As his interest in community banking grew, Terry and a group of investors founded Tri-County National Bank in 1985 with $1.5 million in assets. As a testament to Terry’s business acumen, that one community bank has grown to banking centers in Kentucky counties with over $1 billion in total assets.
While banking may be the foundation upon which Terry Forcht built the Forcht Group of Kentucky, his holdings have expanded into insurance, broadcasting, publishing, web design, technology services, retail, equine, and construction. “We built one company on top of another one, and that’s how we grew,” said Mr. Forcht.
