Forcht Group of Kentucky - Companies
The Forcht Group of Kentucky is a family of companies principally owned by Terry E. Forcht. The companies employ more than 2,100 people in banking, healthcare, insurance, financial services, retail, broadcasting, publishing, construction, real estate, and more.
Few people have the drive and determination to build companies from the ground up like Mr. Forcht. Terry was born and raised in Louisville, KY, graduating from Shawnee High School. He earned his bachelor's degree and Juris Doctoral from the University of Louisville, and an MBA from the University of Miami, Florida. Shortly after graduating from U of L, Terry moved his family to Corbin, KY and began teaching classes at Cumberland College, now University of the Cumberlands. Around that same time, he founded his own law practice in Corbin.
In 1972, Mr. Forcht purchased what is considered the first building block of the Forcht group - a nursing home in Corbin, KY. Today, First Corbin Long Term Care, Inc. owns nine health and rehabilitation centers in southeast Kentucky. Mr. Forcht's first involvement with banking also came in 1972 when he was appointed to the board of directors of Corbin Deposit Bank and Trust Company. As his interest in community-based banking grew, Terry and a group of investors founded Tri-County National Bank in 1985, with $1.5 million in assets. As a testament to his business skills, that one community bank has grown to 30 banking centers in 12 Kentucky counties, with total assets over $1 billion.
Today, the Forcht family of companies includes 22 radio stations, 20 finance company offices, two insurance companies, two newspapers, a pharmacy and diagnostic lab, a retail furniture and gift store, a construction company, real estate, and several other ventures.
